I’ve had a buzzcut for a very long time, and I’ve been dyeing my hair for even longer. What I’ve discovered through all the different looks I’ve tried is that for an amateur, having shorter hair actually makes it a lot easier to create intricate hair art looks, as you don't have to worry about layers or how your hair falls as much, and functions almost like a flat blank canvas for the dye.

For this look I started with clean and freshly shaved hair and used the Ghosted Hair Lightening kit to lighten my naturally dark hair. I really want the neon colours of this look to stand out, so lightening it first is essential! Be sure to patch test all the products you plan to use the day before, however, just to make sure you don't have any unfortunate reactions! I’ve been using Attitude for years, so I didn't need to this time.

Since my hair is so short, I only have to leave it on for 10-15 minutes before I achieved the colour I wanted, and quickly rinsed out the bleach with cold water once I was happy with it, always been sure to keep an eye on the time when lightening your hair, as you don't want to leave it on long enough to cause damage. Next, using a paintbrush and hand-mirror, I sketched out the edges of the design I wanted to create with Toxic neon green. For this look I was aiming to create a neon cybergoth slime design, so I took my time getting the edges as even as I could, using one mirror for the back of your head and having another in your hand is very helpful for getting the sides to match and meet up at the back, but also don't be afraid to ask a friend for help!

Once I finished the outline, I filled the bottom half of the design with Toxic and then the top half with Proud pink. Both of these dye are UV reflective, so they’ll look amazing under a blacklight! Once I had filled in all the empty space, I covered my head with cling film (or plastic wrap, depending where you’re from) and left the dye to sit and soak into the hair for an hour and a bit.

Unlike the bleach, Attitude dyes are full of nourishing ingredients, so you can leave them on for as long as you like without causing any damage to your hair. When I want to create a really vibrant look, I like to apply the dye, wrap my head to keep the dye from drying out, and then go watch a movie or play a game to maximize the colour payoff. To test the colour, I wiped off a patch of the dye with a paper towel and once I was happy with the result, I washed the dye out with cold water, careful not to smudge the edges of the design just in case the green and pink became muddied.

I am extremely happy with the result! The best part about this design (and split dye in general) is if you’re not vibing with green and pink, you can switch out whatever colours you like, as both contrasting and complimentary colours work great for these kind of looks!
