This earth day, let's look at the many creative ways our customers reuse their empty hair dye pots to avoid having to throw them away! In 2023, we hosted the Face of Attitude event where we encouraged followers to share their creativity through hair dye and sustainability, to inspire us in how to become more sustainable ourselves. Thanks to the amazing input, we've combined some of our favourite ideas for you right here.
STORING HAIR DYE
One of the most obvious and common ways we saw was using it to store dye mixes. 62%* of our customers already use the pots to mix and store their favourite colour mixes or mix some leftovers with shampoo or conditioner to keep their hair colour looking fresh. As Laura says, "I usually use them to store some leftover of my already mixed hair colour, a little label on top to know whats inside and its perfect!"
PLANTING/PROPAGATING
32%* of our customers clearly have a green thumb; as we've seen many great examples of propagating seeds or succulents inside these pots. We at the office have also started doing this and growing our own herbs for the office kitchen!
Fenna even made her own plant waterer with her pot. "By heating the lid i could easily make one by making one big hole on the top and smaller little ones on the bottom. When you hold your finger over the top hole after filing it by dunking it under water, the water stays inside! You can then take it outside (or inside) to water your plants!"
ART
The creativity is running high in this community! Many people suggested using the lid to mix paints or makeup because it's easy to clean off. Some got even more creative suggesting making sculptures out of them, or using it as a canvas to paint on. Laura and Melina both also mentioned making an artistic gown or accessories out of the plastic!
Alisha suggested making a Jack-O-Lantern out of one: "The craziest idea I can think of is to turn it into an art piece; for example, carving parts of the pot out, perhaps painting the rest of a pot in some colour/style, and if you want it more Halloween themed, you could have it mimic a Jack-O-Lantern and place a little tealight candle in it!"
Similarly, Evelien showed us
how she decorated some fairy lights with her empty pots.
STORAGE
Finally, 51%* of our users use the pots to store anything ranging from paper clips to jewelry to spider food. Whether you're storing small beads and materials for a cosplay, separating your earrings, bracelets, rings, and necklaces in stacked pots, or storing your erasers, push pins and elastics on your office desk - these can be used for anything!
Do you have any other ideas or already do these? Let us know in the comments!
